Course overview

This qualification aims to assist learners to develop their knowledge and understanding of the principles of caring for those with dementia.

You will learn about areas such as person-centred care, the influence of positive communication methods, issues relating to the use of medication for those with dementia and the importance of providing appropriate activities.

The qualification can be used to support the underpinning knowledge and understanding needed for those working in or towards a dementia care role.

Our training is split into seven units:

    • Dementia awareness
    • The person-centred approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia
    • Understand the factors that can influence communication and interaction with individuals who have dementia
    • Understand equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care
    • Understand the administration of medication to individuals with dementia using a person-centred approach
    • Understand behaviour in the context of dementia
    • Understand the benefits of engaging in activities in social care

Prerequisites

You do not need to have any additional qualifications before studying this course.

Learners should be at least 16 to undertake this qualification.

Level

On successful completion of this course you will achieve the NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Dementia Care qualification.

The NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Dementia Care is a regulated qualification. This means it is a nationally recognised qualification, regulated by Ofqual in England.

This qualification supports progression to employment and progression within employment for the following job roles:

  • clinical healthcare support worker
  • nursing assistant
  • mental health support worker

This course has a credit value of 16 total credits.

Certification

Successfully complete this course and you will:

  • Achieve the NCFE CACHE Certificate in the Principles of Dementia Care* at Level 2
